Eraño G. Manalo also known as "Ka Erdy", a famous leader of the Iglesia ni Cristo religious sect (commonly known as INC) passed away on August 31 due to cardiac arrest in his house in Quezon City. He was 84 at the time of his death.

He is survived by his spouse Cristina Villanueva, his 3 sons and 3 daughters.

The Malacañang Palace released a press statement proclaiming that September 7 & 21 will both be non-working holidays throughout the Philippines in remembrance of Ka Erdy.
